Discount Health Plans
Discount Health Plans provide savings on medical, dental, vision, hearing, prescription, counseling and more for a yearly or monthly membership fee. Different plans offer different percentages of discounts. Providers sign contracts with the discount company and when you visit that provider the discount is passed on to you at the time of service. The discount plan does not pay the provider themselves like an insurance company. These plans will save you out of pocket money, however you would need to assess if the amount saved is more than the membership fees you will pay to determine if this is right for you. If you usually spend a lot on prescriptions or medical care this plan may work for you. Also, if you cannot get health insurance due to a pre-existing condition, most discount plans will still allow you to join. Before joining a discount health plan you should first find out whom and where the providers are that allow the discounts. Discount plans don’t review their providers like an insurance company does, so you will need to determine the reputation of the providers that you can see under the plan.
